I'm Jo, and I'm Here to Help

My approach to therapy at Wellness Psychology is rooted in a simple but deeply held belief: you are the expert on yourself. I do not come to sessions with a fixed agenda or a predetermined idea of who you should be. Instead, I create a safe, private and non-judgemental space for you to explore what is happening in your life, at a pace that feels right for you. Therapy at Wellness Psychology is a collaborative process — you lead, and I will meet you where you are.

Therapy, to me, should feel both clinically grounded and deeply human. I draw on a range of evidence-informed therapeutic approaches, adapting the way I work to suit each individual client rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method.

At the heart of everything I do is a person-centred philosophy. I believe that people have the capacity to heal and to grow, and that the role of therapy is to create the right conditions for that process to happen: a space that is genuinely safe, free of judgement, and led entirely by your pace and your needs.

Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time or have worked with a therapist before, you will be met with warmth, patience and genuine care.

My Background and Clinical Experience

I have delivered more than 2,000 hours of therapy across a range of settings, including acute hospital services for both adolescents and adults, bereavement counselling, and private practice. That breadth of experience means I have worked with a wide range of people, at very different points in their lives, with very different needs.

I work with individuals experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including depression, emotional dysregulation, and various forms of anxiety and panic, such as generalised, health, and social anxiety. My practice also focuses on trauma and healing, supporting individuals through the complexities of PTSD, Complex PTSD, dissociation, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Additionally, I provide a compassionate, supportive space for working through low self-esteem, chronic stress, and burnout. This extends to helping clients navigate difficult life transitions, bereavement, grief, loss, and attachment or relationship difficulties.

I hold a BSc in Psychology (First Class Honours) and an MSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling with my academic research specialising in the dynamics of perfectionism. Alongside these formal qualifications, I have continued to develop my practice through specialist training, including the Flash Technique, a gentle, highly effective approach to trauma therapy.

How I Work

As an integrative therapist I use a diverse range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to meet your individual needs and goals.

At the foundation of my work is Person-Centered Therapy, which creates a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore inner conflicts, process difficult emotions, and develop deep self-acceptance. To understand the deeper roots of your current experiences, I incorporate Psychodynamic Therapy to explore past experiences and unconscious patterns, alongside Gestalt Therapy, which emphasises your present-moment self-awareness.

To provide you with practical, actionable tools for change, I utilise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to help identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. This is closely supported by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps you to disentangle from thoughts, accept feelings, and commit to personal values. Finally, to foster long-term emotional resilience, I integrate Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to build a kinder, more positive relationship with yourself, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) to teach practical skills to manage intense emotions.

Sessions are available in person at my private therapy suite in Penn, Wolverhampton, and online via secure video call for clients across the UK. I also offer a blended approach to therapy whereby clients can access both online and face to face sessions.

I offer a flexible, client-led approach to scheduling. Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly, monthly, or quarterly, depending on what best aligns with your needs. Our work together can be short-term or long-term, tailored entirely to your personal goals and preferences.

Specialist Therapy Approach

Alongside my core therapeutic practice, I offer a specialist approach for clients working through trauma or distressing past experiences.

The Flash Technique

The Flash Technique is a newer approach to trauma therapy that can help you process painful memories with significantly less distress than many traditional methods. I am one of a small number of UK therapists trained in this approach, and it is particularly valuable for clients who find it difficult to revisit difficult experiences directly.

Professionally Registered and Fully Insured

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), one of the UK's most respected professional bodies for the therapy and counselling professions. BACP registration means I am committed to upholding rigorous standards of training, ethics and continuing professional development, and that you can seek independent guidance from the BACP if you ever have a concern about your care.
